Specialty Coffee in Singapore
This post is meant to document our attempt in getting a bearing on the specialty coffee scene in Singapore – on the state of local roasting and brewing. It is not meant to be definitive, and is meant to be light hearted and enjoyable! Its format – a documentation of all the great coffees we’ve managed to seek out.
We will be listing a collection of the various cafes that serve specialty coffee in Singapore. We will be updating this list with time. To see a quick summary of all the places we’ve visited, you can view this google map of places! In no particular order:
1. Piccolo by Hei Kim
Address: Far East Plaza, 14 Scotts Rd, #03-22, Singapore 228213
Date of visit: 23/04/2023
Far East Plaza is an interesting shopping location with a gamut of beauty salons and eateries scattered throughout. Piccolo is one of the two cafes housed in this quaint shopping centre, the other being Community Coffee. We passed by Piccolo after having lunch at Penang Kitchen (give their Penang CKT a try!). Was probably attracted by its aesthetic – an old school kopitiam vibe with concrete walls. They seem to specialise in desserts but they offer quite a nice selection of beans for filter coffee.
We got two coffees:
- Colombia, Tablon De Gomez, Washed by unknown roaster
- Ethiopia, Wolichu Wachu, Anaerobic Natural by luli roasts
luli roasts is a micro-roaster in Singapore super passionate about coffee. These coffees were brewed using the V60 method using (I think?) the Timemore Crystal Eye dripper. They were served on these very cute old school nanyang coffee coffee cups.
